The rugby season runs from January through April, and into May for High School Divisions that make the Playoffs. It is a perfect winter sport that generally falls in between football and baseball. The matches for High School are generally on Friday evenings or Saturdays and for Middle School and Youth on Saturday or Sundays. Practices vary from Club to Club, but are generally once or twice a week in the evenings. During the season you can expect to spend between 8 and 12 hours coaching and traveling, depending on your level of commitment and your role in the Club. There is an NCYRA Coaching Licensure program that was established in 2011 and is being administered by the NCYRA and USA Rugby. The NCYRA stated Policy is that all coaches must be Licensed this coming Season. Close to 300 Coaches took the 8 hour course in 2011 and received their NCYRA Coach License. This is one of the largest Licensure programs in the country. Below you will see the Coaching Courses currently being offered prior to the Season. Sign up for these courses here. Also, at the bottom of this page you will see a list of currently NCYRA Licensed Coaches. If you are not on that list and you believe that you should be, please contact us at staff@ncyrugby.org and explain the situation. We want to thank all of the Coaches on the list below and congratulate them on taking the important step to legitimizing the sport of rugby. |
